Sail Canada also opted to reject the berth, deciding that none of their 49er teams met their internal standards. \u00a0Therefore, the berth went to the next best placed team from the 2015 World Championship, the Swiss, who snapped it up.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic qualifying is now complete in the 49er, with the following line up heading down:<\/p>\n<h5>Host Nation<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>Brazil \u2013 Marco Grael and Gabriel Borges<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>2014 Santander Worlds Qualifiers<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li>New Zealand \u2013 Peter Burling and Blair Tuke<\/li>\n<li>Demark \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/49er.org\/warrerthomsen\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jonas Warrer a<\/a>nd CP Lubeck<\/li>\n<li>Australia \u2013\u00a0Nathan Outteridge &amp; Iain Jensen<\/li>\n<li>Austria \u2013 Nico Delle Karth &amp; Niko Resch<\/li>\n<li>Portugal \u2013 Jorge Lima &amp; Jose Costa<\/li>\n<li>Great Britain \u2013\u00a0Dylan Fletcher &amp; Alaign Sign<\/li>\n<li>Ireland \u2013 Ryan Seaton &amp; Lucean Cujean (this spot was won by Sweden but they did not accept)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The competition in Rio will be hot, with odds on favorites Peter Burling and Blair Tuke on everybodies radar. \u00a0Rio is notoriously tricky, there are all sorts of distractions both on and off the water, and it\u2019s likely the event may end up short of races. \u00a0The most sure fire bet ever in 49er sailing is much more precarious than most realize!<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS) have been on a roll of late, winning the latest act of the America\u2019s Cup and back consistently on the podium of 49er events they enter. \u00a0The chasing bunch includes a post Olympic gold medalist (DEN), two top Europeans at the last two European championships (GER and ESP), and two medalists from the most recent 49er World Championship (AUT and GBR). \u00a0Rounding out the other contenders are young guns Yago and Klaus Lange (ARG), light air specialists from POR and FRA, the Polish duo of Lukasz and Pawel who seem to always be just off the podium, and the mercurial Irish, who are able to break onto the podium every now and then.<\/p>\n<p><strong>49erFX still up in the air<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Australian federation is still holding onto the final 49erFX Olympic berth despite publicly saying they will not send a 49erFX team to Rio. \u00a0Tess Lloyd and Caitlin Elks have taken their case to the court of Arbitration for sport in order to win a final appeal to go to Rio. \u00a0A massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Aus49erfx\/\">facebook page<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/board-of-australian-sailing-an-australian-49erfx-team-at-the-rio-olympics?recruiter=97569500&amp;utm_source=share_petition&amp;utm_medium=facebook&amp;utm_campaign=autopublish&amp;utm_term=des-lg-petitions_show_components_action_panel_wrapper-reason_msg&amp;fb_ref=Default\">petition<\/a> have been launched to support their fight against their MNA. \u00a0If they fail in their appeal the berth will go to the Croatian team.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<script>\n  (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({\n    google_ad_client: \"ca-pub-4487550053079833\",\n    enable_page_level_ads: true\n  });\n<\/script><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=Every_sailrace\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olympic games 2016 &#8211;
