The 55th Trofeo Princesa Sof\u00eda Mallorca by FERGUS Hotels is set to open the 2026 Olympic\u2011class racing season with a significant shift: the event will serve as the first major testbed for new competition formats proposed by World Sailing for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The updates \u2014 detailed in the event\u2019s official press release \u2014 are designed to deliver closer, more unpredictable medal battles across all ten Olympic disciplines.<\/p>\n

From 27 March to 4 April<\/strong>, the Bay of Palma will once again become the global center of Olympic sailing. Nearly 350 teams from 49 nations<\/strong> have already pre\u2011registered, underscoring the event\u2019s status as the opening chapter of the Sailing Grand Slam<\/strong> circuit, alongside SOF (France), Dutch Water Week (Netherlands), Kieler Woche (Germany), and the Long Beach & San Pedro Olympic Classes Regatta (USA).<\/p>\n

According to the press release, the most notable change concerns the Medal Race structure.
